The engine (4.6 MB) downloads once and is kept, so the first file takes a moment longer. How it works

Change the text. Keep it real text.

Double-click a word, type, save. The result is still selectable and searchable in Acrobat, Preview and Chrome, in the same font. Not a white box with new text on top, which is what the other free editors do.

  • Edit existing textSame font, same position; substitution flagged when needed.
  • Fill and signForms, signatures, dates; flatten on save. Wave 1.
  • Pages and objectsReorder, rotate, add images, shapes, highlights.
  • Saves incrementallyFast, and your original bytes stay untouched.

How it works, and why it is free

  1. 1Drop a fileIt opens in your browser tab. There is no upload, so there is no size limit and nothing to wait for on a server.
  2. 2The engine does the workPDFium, the same engine Chrome uses to show PDFs, runs inside your tab in a worker. It renders, edits and saves.
  3. 3Download or keep goingEvery result can go straight into the next tool: compress after merging, sign after filling.

A file costs us nothing to process because your device does it. Hosting is paid by optional tips, so there are no credits, no daily limits, no watermark and no ads.

Questions

How is this free, with no catch?

Your device does the work. The engine runs inside your browser tab, so each operation costs the site nothing, and hosting a static site costs a few euros a month. Optional tips cover that. There are no credits, daily limits, watermarks or ads, and nothing unlocks anything.

Does my file really stay on my computer?

Yes. The only network requests are the site's own files: the pages and the 4.6 MB engine, kept on your device after the first visit. The browser's own security policy (connect-src) forbids this page from connecting anywhere else, so no code on it could upload a file. Turn Wi-Fi off after the page has loaded and it still works.

Can it edit the text, or just add a layer on top?

It edits the text. The editor changes the text object on the page with the same engine Chrome uses to show PDFs, so the result is still real text: selectable, searchable, in the same font and position. The white-box-over-old-text trick exists only as a labelled fallback for the rare file the engine cannot edit.

What happens with scanned PDFs?

A scan is a picture of a page with no text underneath. The tools that work on pages (merge, split, rotate, convert to images) handle it like any other file. Making it searchable needs OCR, which arrives in wave 1.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes, in Safari and Chrome. Large files are limited by the phone's memory, and the page says so when a file is too big rather than failing quietly.

Is there a file-size limit?

Only your device's memory. A 300 MB, 500 page file works on an ordinary laptop. The page tells you when a file does not fit.

Can I use it offline?

After the first visit, yes. The pages and the engine are kept on your device, so the site opens and works with no connection.

Is my edited file identical in Acrobat?

Yes. The editor saves an incremental update: your original bytes are untouched and the changes are appended, the way Acrobat itself saves. The result opens in Acrobat, Preview, Chrome and Edge, and the edited text is searchable there.

Free because it runs on your device, not ours.

If it saved you a subscription, a tip keeps the site and the engine online. No tip unlocks anything.
